Volhynian Golgotha threw an 18-tonnes granite boulder up from the ground. The monolith was taken to Warsaw, and then, as a polished plaque, it went to Vilnius.

The heart came from Warsaw to Vilnius in a special carriage and rested in a silver urn at the mother’s feet. The tomb was covered with a plaque from a Volhynian village. The plaque was engraved with the inscription “Mother and Heart of the Son”.

Ten years after Marshal Piłsudski’s death, the village of Bronisławka, where the granite was found, ceased to exist.

Niezwłocznie po śmierci wyjęto z niego serce. Waga organu dwukrotnie przekraczała normalną. Serce przyjechało z Warszawy do Wilna w specjalnym wagonie, by w srebrnej urnie spocząć u stóp matki. Grobowiec przykryto płytą z wołyńskiej wsi. Wyryto na nim napis “Matka i Serce Syna”.

Dziesięć lat po śmierci marszałka Piłsudskiego wieś Bronisławka, w której znaleziono granit, przestała istnieć.
