Jesus standing by the wayside

Jesus emerged from the chisel of a folk sculptor. He was waiting at home to be crucified.

‘If there is Jesus, the cross is also needed. My father’s brother put up the cross and it is still here today,’ Mrs Jadwiga said.

After twenty years, the wood set in the soil began rotting.

‘It wobbles. We cannot let it fall down,’ says Jadwida. It will not. Jadwiga’s two sons have just strengthened the construction.

The cross is still standing.

Jezus przydrożny stał

Jezus wyszedł spod dłuta ludowego rzeźbiarza. W domu czekał na ukrzyżowanie.

– Skoro Jezus jest, to i krzyż potrzebny. Brat ojca krzyż postawił i tak do dziś stoi – mówi pani Jadwiga.

Po dwudziestu latach drewno wbite w ziemię zaczęło butwieć.

 – Chwieje się. Nie można dopuścić, by upadł – dodaje kobieta.

Nie upadnie. Dwóch synów Jadwigi właśnie wzmocniło konstrukcję.

Krzyż stoi do dziś.
